The Oglethorpe University men's tennis team swept Piedmont
College in Demorest, Georgia on Tuesday afternoon, 9-0. The Petrels
dominated the Lions, winning 24 of 30 games played in doubles and
dropping nary a set in singles.
The number one doubles combination of Brad White and Ross Beall
won 8-4 while Felix Mann and Bryan Bailey combined to blank their
opponents at number two, 8-0. The freshman duo of Alex Biffle and
Tim Tanko partnered at number three doubles and triumphed, 8-2.
Mann (6-2, 6-0) claimed another point for Oglethorpe at number
one singles by dismantling his opponent. Beall (6-0, 6-1) was
equally impressive at number two while Bailey (6-0, 6-1) cruised to
victory by the identical score from the three singles spot. At
four, Brad White (6-0, 6-0)blanked his Lion opponent and, at five,
Masen Shreve (6-0, 6-1) was easily victorious. Lawrence Sweatman
(6-2, 6-2) capped the sweep for the Petrels playing from the number
six singles position.
The Oglethorpe netters are now 4-3 on the season and will host
Spartanburg Methodist this Friday on Downing Howell Courts at 3:00
p.m.
