The Oglethorpe University women's tennis team swept Piedmont
College in Demorest, Georgia on Tuesday afternoon, 9-0. The number
one doubles combination of Alison Burt and Jayme Danielson won in a
tiebreaker, 9-8 (5) and the Petrels went on to steamroll the Lions.
After Burt-Danielson survived their tough contest, the twos and
the threes dispatched their Piedmont opponents easily. Molly
Colvard and Sarah Beth Britt (8-1) won at number two and
Kimberly O'Dell and LaDonna Barnes (8-0) combined for a
whitewashing at number three.
The Petrels continued their success in the singles matches,
dropping only one of the thirteen sets played. Danielson (6-0, 6-0)
dominated at number one while Britt (6-3, 7-6) ended her match at
number two in a second set tiebreaker (10-7). Colvard (6-0, 6-0)
blanked her opponent at number three and Burt (6-0, 6-1) narrowly
missed accomplishing the same feat at number four. Sarah Duff (6-2,
5-7, 6-3) won in three sets at number five and O'Dell (6-4,
6-2)closed out the sweep for Oglethorpe at number six.
The Stormy Petrels are now 3-4 on the season and will get set to
