The Oglethorpe University women's tennis team lost their first
two of five spring break matches today against Otterbein and
Northwestern Ohio in Orlando, Florida. The Petrels fell by to
Otterbein 7-2 and then dropped a heartbreaker to Northwestern Ohio,
5-4.
Playing from the number one doubles position against Otterbein,
Jayme Danielson and Alison Burt were nipped by their opponents 8-6,
as was the number two combo of Sarah Beth Britt and Molly Colvard.
Kimberly O'Dell and LaDonna Barnes were bested at number three,
8-4, and Oglethorpe could not crawl out of the 3-0 hole to rally
for the victory.
The Petrels did manage to take two of the singles matches
againsty Otterbein with Colvard (6-2, 5-7, 10-7) winning at
number three and Burt (7-5, 6-2) claiming victory at number
four. Both Danielson (3-6, 6-2, 6-3) and Sarah Duff (3-6, 7-5,
10-5) lost their singles matches in three-set heartbreak
fashion. Britt (6-1, 7-4) lost in straight sets at number two
as did O'Dell (7-6, 6-4) at number six.
Against Northwestern Ohio, the Petrels dropped two of three
doubles matches before splitting the singles competition to come up
just short. Colvard and Britt (8-6) combined for the winning
doubles point while Danielson and Burt (8-2) and O'Dell and Barnes
(8-4) each suffered setbacks.
In singles matches, Britt (7-6, 6-3), Duff (6-3, 6-0) and O'Dell
(6-3, 6-3) were victorious while Danielson (6-3, 6-3), Colvard
(6-2, 6-4) and Burt (6-4, 6-3) suffered defeat.
The Petrels are now 4-6 on the season and will face Kalamazoo
tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. and Luther at 4:00 p.m. during their spring
break run.
