The Oglethorpe University men's tennis team fell to Luther
College in Orlando on Thursday evening, 5-4. Ranked 27th
nationally, Luther was able to claim a 2-1 lead after the double
matches before splitting the singles for the narrow win.
The No. 2 doubles combo of Felix Mann and Bryan Bailey (8-4)
secured Oglethorpe's doubles point while No. 1 Ross Beall and Brad
White (8-4) and No. 3 Alex Biffle and Tim Tanko (8-4) each went
down in their matches.
The Petrels won at numbers one, two and three in the singles but
dropped four, five and six to lose to Luther narrowly. Mann (6-1,
2-6, 7-5) won over nationally ranked Scott Sunstrom and Beall
(6-3, 3-6, 6-3) and Biffle (6-2, 6-0) each proved
victorious. Bailey (7-5, 6-3), White (6-1, 6-2) and Tanko (6-4,
6-3) dropped their singles matches.
The Petrels are back in action Friday morning against Grinell in
Orlando.
