The Oglethorpe University women's tennis team defeated
Southeastern on Wednesday afternoon, 8-1. The Petrels celebrated
Senior Day in style as the class of 2010 of Sarah Beth Britt,
Kimberly O'Dell and Alison Burt each scored victories on the
afternoon.
The Stormy Petrels began the afternoon by claiming all three
doubles points with Britt and Burt (8-2) winning at No. 1 and
Molly Colvard and Jayme Danielson (8-2) earning a victory at
No. 2. The duo of O'Dell and Kayla Atkins won without breaking a
sweat as their Southeastern counterparts forfeited the match.
In singles, the Petrels were victorious in each of their matches
except No. 2 where Britt (6-3, 6-2) went down to her opponent.
Danielson (6-1, 6-1) clinched the match for Oglethorpe from
the No. 1 position while Colvard (6-2, 6-3), Burt (6-2, 6-4),
O'Dell (6-2, 6-3) and Duff (forfeit) also secured singles
points with victories.
With the win, Oglethorpe is now 5-8 on the season and will have
a week off before travelling to Birmingham April 9 for a
gauntlet of matches against SCAC foes.
