The men's tennis team continued their hot streak by winning
their fifth straight match and third consecutive over an SCAC
opponent by whitewashing Austin College on Friday morning in
Memphis, Tennessee, 9-0. The team fell to Rhodes 7-2 later in the
day to end the streak.
Austin and Oglethorpe agreed to play the singles matches
first and Oglethorpe had clinched the victory by the No. 5 spot
where Brad
White (6-2, 6-0) was victorious. The Petrels got wins across
the board with Felix Mann (6-2, 6-3),
Ross Beall
(6-1, 6-0), Alex
Biffle (6-0, 6-0), Bryan Bailey (6-0,
6-0) and Masen Shreve (6-0,
6-2) each handling their Kangaroo opponents easily.
The Petrels also dominated the doubles competition over the
'Roos with the duos of Beall-Biffle (8-2), Bailey-Sweatman
(8-2) and Tim Tanko-Shreve (8-0) cruising to victories.
It was different story against Rhodes, however. The Petrels were
swept in the doubles competition and had both Ross Beall and Alex
Biffle retire in their singles matches with injuries. The only
Petrels able to secure points in the match were Mann (6-3, 6-4) and
Bailey (7-6, 6-2) in their singles matches at No.'s 1 and 4
respectively.
The Netters are back in action tomorrow when they square off
with two more SCAC opponents in Memphis.
