The men's tennis team finished their weekend of conference
matches in Memphis by defeating both Colorado College (5-2) and
Hendrix College (5-1) on Saturday night. For the second straight
week, the Petrels won three of four SCAC matches on the road.
Against Colorado, the two teams began with singles play where
Oglethorpe scored wins from Felix Mann (6-4, 6-2),
Alex Biffle
(6-2, 6-0), Bryan Bailey (6-3,
6-2) and Tim Tanko (6-4, 6-4). Lawrence
Sweatman (6-1, 6-2) and Brad White (6-3, 7-6)
were defeated in their singles matches.
In doubles, the Petrels earned the game deciding point at number
three with Bailey and Sweatman (8-5) combining to seal the
match. The Petrels led in the other two doubles matches that went
uncompleted.
Against Hendrix, Oglethorpe began the match by winning two of
three doubles points to set up the win. Biffle-Mann (8-6) and
Bailey-Sweatman (8-2) scored those two points while White-Shreve
(8-1) fell following an injury to White.
In the singles, the Petrels scored the match winning points at
No.'s one, two and three on the strength of victories by Mann (6-4,
6-2), Biffle (6-0, 6-3) and Bailey (6-0, 6-0). The other singles
matches went unfinished.
The Netters are now 15-8 on the season and will wrap up the
regular season with a Senior Day match versus Washington and Lee on
Monday at 3:00 p.m.
