The Oglethorpe University men's tennis team lost to Berry
College on Downing Howell Courts on Friday afternoon, 5-4.
Oglethorpe managed to win two out of the three doubles points
but Berry rallied to claim four of the six singles matches to top
the Petrels.
In doubles, Alex Biffle and Ross Beall (8-6) rallied from a
hole to win their match and the combo of Bryan Bailey and Lawrence
Sweatman (8-2) also claimed a point by winning. Playing
together at the No. 2 spot, Masen Shreve and Brad White (8-1) were
bested in their doubles match.
In the singles matches, the adjusted top of the order struggled
with No. 1 Biffle (6-1, 6-1), No. 2 Beall (6-0, 6-1) and No. 3
Bailey (6-4, 6-2) all going down. White (6-1, 6-4) and
Sweatman (6-3, 6-3) were victorious at numbers four and six
and the match came down to No. 5 where Masen Shreve (7-6,
6-4) lost a heartbreaker.
The Stormy Petrels are now 8-6 on the season and will travel to
Birmingham next weekend for a gauntlet of matches against SCAC
foes.
