Netters Notch Historic Victory Over Sewanee

The men's tennis team won the 4 vs. 5 match at the 2010 SCAC Championships over Sewanee in Little Rock, Arkansas, 5-4. The victory over the Tigers marks Oglethorpe's first in the modern era (since 1991) and propels the Petrels into the semifinals against No. 1 seed Trinity.

The Tigers took two of three doubles matches but Oglethorpe rallied to claim four of the six singles matches for the historic victory. The doubles combo of Felix Mann-Bryan Bailey (8-6) secured the Petrel point in doubles while Ross Beall-Alex Biffle (8-4) and Lawrence Sweatman-Brad White (8-5) went down in nhard fought battles.

In singles, the Petrels got wins from the top four spots with Mann (6-3, 4-6, 6-3), Beall (6-3, 6-3), Biffle (6-1, 6-0) and Bailey (6-3, 6-1) combining to push Oglethorpe over the top. White (6-1, 6-0) and Timothy Tanko (6-4, 6-0) were bested in their singles matches.

The Petrels advance to the semifinals for the fist time in the modern era and it is also the first time in 17 years that the final four teams are not Trinity, Rhodes, DePauw and Sewanee. Oglethorpe's match with nationally ranked Trinity gets underway at 12:00 p.m. Eastern on Saturday.
