Box Score The men's soccer team continued their winning ways on Wednesday
afternoon by topping Piedmont on Salamone Field, 3-2.
The Petrels dominated the attack all evening but still only led
1-0 at halftime on a 32nd minute goal by Ellis Curry, the first of
his career. Curry was set up supremely by a deft assist from Mark
Lavery.
Oglethorpe finally established some separation in the second
half when they posted two goals within two minutes of eachother to
extend the lead to 3-0. The first strike came on an outstanding
individual effort from Ben Robertson who beat two Lion defenders
with some nifty dribbling before powering a shot past Piedmont's
keeper. Moments later, in the game's 74th minute, Robertson fed EJ
Ovie-Ogodo who found the back of the net from inside the box for
his first tally of the season.
Piedmont added intrigue by scoring two late goals but it was not
enough to overcome the outstanding effort from Oglethorpe. The
Petrels outshot the Lions by the wide margin of 31-6 and earned 6
corners to just 1 for their opponent.
With the win, the Petrels are now 3-0-1 on the season and will
get set to face Huntingdon College this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. on
Salamone Field.
