Box Score The men's soccer team earned their first victory of the 2010
season by topping Hampden-Sydney on Saturday afternoon on the
campus of Emory University, 2-1. The Petrels scored two goals in a
span of two minutes late in the second half to grab the win.
After falling behind in the 65th minute on a Tiger goal via a
steal and nice shot by Bryan Whorton, the Petrels turned the
tide on the contest in a hurry. Freshman Steven Bott scored the
first goal of his young career on a loose ball in the box at the
71:39 mark of the second half. Barley two minutes later, Oglethorpe
won a corner which Russell Thompson turned into gold when he found
the head of Jeff Arsenault who knocked it squarely into the net for
the decisive score.
The Petrels are now 1-0-1 on the season and gewt back in action
Sunday afternoon when they face Illinois Wesleyan on Emory's campus
in the famed Sonny Carter Invitational.
