Petrels Down Pirates, Advance to SCAC Final

Box Score

The men's soccer team inched closer to the school's first-ever SCAC Title on Saturday night by knocking off Southwestern in Birmingham, Ala. in the SCAC semifinals, 2-0. The Petrels will face Centre College, upset winners over No. 4 Trinity, in tomorrow's final at 2:30 p.m. Eastern.

Oglethorpe showed their intentions of advancing to the title game early in the contest as Aaron Walker scored off a pass from Aleksander Tanjga in only the game's 2nd minute to give the Petrels the lead.

Moments after halftime, Jeff Arsenault headed in a cross from Ben Robertson to give the Petrels a 2-0 advantage they would not relinquish. The Petrels dominated pace of play, outshooting the Pirates 17-3 on the night and earning a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.

The Petrels will now face Centre, whom they bested 3-1 just 9 days ago, for the SCAC Championship and a bid to the 2011 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament at 2:30 p.m. Eastern Sunday. Follow the final by visiting the Championship website here.
