The women's tennis team nearly upset regionally ranked Huntingdon College on Downing Howell Courts on Saturday afternoon before narrowly falling, 5-4.
The Petrels dropped two of three of the doubles points to Huntingdon but the Hawks had to earn their points as the duos of Jayme Danielson-Katarina Te and Clara Reinheimer-Sarah Duff each lost close matches, going down 8-6 and 8-5, respectively at numbers one and two doubles. The combo of Caffrey Francis-Kate Siess won at number three, 8-4.
In singles matches, Francis (7-5, 6-2), Duff (6-2, 6-2) and LaDonna Barnes (6-4, 6-3) each earned wins for Oglethorpe. Te (6-0, 6-2), Reinheimer (6-0, 6-1) and Siess (6-1, 6-4) suffered defeats at the hands of their Huntingdon opponents. Complete match results are included below.
The Lady Netters are now 0-2 on the season and will look to pick up their first win versus Piedmont on Downing Howell Courts at 3:00 p.m. on March 2.
