The men's tennis team won their third straight match over an SCAC opponent on Saturday night by topping Birmingham-Southern, 7-2. Head coach Peter Howell earned his 100th career dual match win at the helm of the men's team in the process.
Playing with the starting lineup the Petrels took two of three doubles points to set the stage for the historic win in singles action. Oglethorpe then claimed matches at No.'s 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 singles to lift Howell to the milestone win.
Felix Mann went 2-0 on the evening and Bryan Bailey clinched the match for Oglethorpe with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 5. It took Howell only 8 seasons to eclipse the 100 win mark for his career. Complete Birmingham match results included below.
The Petrels are now 14-3 on the season and will look to close out the season with a 4-0 mark against SCAC opponents with a win over Hendrix on Sunday morning. Oglethorpe wraps up the 2011 campaign prior to the SCAC Tournament with a match against regionally ranked Washington and Lee on April 18 at 3:00 p.m. on Downing Howell Courts.
