The men's tennis team lost to nationally ranked Trinity University in the semifinals of the SCAC Tennis Championships in North Little Rock, Ark. on Saturday morning, 8-1. The Tigers won all six singles matches en route to advancing to Sunday's final.
The Petrels battled valiantly in the doubles matches, falling at No. 1, 8-5 and at No. 2, 8-2. The duo of Ethan Motz-Bryan Bailey put Oglethorpe on the board with a nice 8-6 win at No. 3.
The Tigers had their way in the singles competition, however, winning across the board to dispatch Oglethorpe. The Petrels were only able to claim one set in singles play, that coming at No. 4 where Bryan Bailey went down, 6-2, 3-6, 10-8.
Despite the semifinal loss, Oglethorpe has already matched last season's best finish in school history of 4th place and can set a new standard by coming home in 3rd if they win tomorrow afternoon. The Petrels will face either Rhodes College or DePauw University at 9:00 a.m. Eastern on Sunday in their quest for third.
