Box Score The men's soccer team lost their first contest of 2011 on Sunday evening when they were topped in the finale of the Piedmont Invitational by Berry College, 2-1. Despite playing a man down for the final 35 minutes of the game, the Petrels nearly got the equalizer they desperately needed before falling to the Vikings.
The Petrels jumped in front on a goal from Mark Lavery that was assisted by Jeff Arsenault but found themselves a player short after Sean King was issued a double-yellow in the game's 55th minute. The Vikings took the lead and, despite a flurry of chances from Oglethorpe, held on for the victory.
The Petrels are now 1-1 on the season and will play their next two contests this coming weekend against Rowan and Methodist on the campus of Emory University in Decatur.
