Case Western Reserve, the No. 14 ranked team in the Central Region, topped the Oglethorpe women's tennis team 9-0 on Monday afternoon. The Spartans, loaded with individuals that also carry regional rankings, cruised to victory with staright sets wins in each of the singles matches.
The Spartans began the afternoon by sweeping the doubles competition in dominating fashion, winning 8-2 at No.1, 8-1 at No. 2 and 8-0 at No. 3. Things didn't get easier for the Petrels, unfortunately, in the singles matches as Case Western eked out a victory at No. 1 over Caffrey Francis and then rolled through the rest of the OU lineup.
Francis lost a spirited first set tiebreak 7-6 (4) before conceding the point by dropping the second set 6-2. The Spartans controlled the remainder of the matches with Oglethorpe only winning three more games as Case Western romped through positions 2 through 6. Complete match results are listed below.
The Lady Netters are now 3-8 on the season and are back in action this Friday when they face Berry College on Downing Howell Courts.
