Berry College bested the women's tennis team on Friday afternoon on Downing Howell Courts, 7-2. The Vikings win all the critical points en route to claiming the road victory over the Petrels.
Berry jumped in front with comfortable 8-2 and 8-0 wins at No.'s 1 and 2 doubles before Oglethorpe's No. 3 duo of Tricia Groover and Kate Siess grinded out a thrilling 9-8 (2) win to put the Petrels on the board.
Unfortunately, the only point Oglethorpe could secure in singles play also came courtesy of freshman Tricia Groover as she won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. Sarah Duff dropped a three-setter 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 and Siess lost a first set tiebreak 7-6 (4) to thwart any notion of the Petrels mounting a comeback. Complete match results listed below.
The women are now 3-7 on the season and will now head to Orlando, Fla. for spring break action beginning Sunday against Grinell.
