The women's tennis team travelled to Sewanee on Saturday and won two gutty matches over Hendrix and Centre. Buoyed by the return of Jayme Danielson to the lineup, the Petrels topped the Warriors 7-2 and the Colonels 5-4 in a barnburner.
The women scratche out the first victory over Hendrix by claiming two of the three soubles points to set the stage for singles play. The lone doubles pint the Warriors collected was a narrow one as they took No. 2 by tghe score of 9-7.
The Lady Netters then blitzed the Warriors in the singles matches, getting straight set wins at No.'s 1, 3, 4 and 5 to cruise to victory.
The afternoon win over Centre was particularly sweet for the women as it marked the first Oglethorpe victory over the Colonels since 2003. Danielson's return greatly influenced the outcome of the match as she battled back from down a set and down 5-1 in the third set tiebreak to score a huge win at No. 3 singles. Her victory gave OU their fourth point of the match and set the stage for Caffrey Francis who did not disappoint at No. singles. Francis rallied from down a set to win in a tiebreak and give the Petrels the huge conference win.
The women are now 6-12 on the season and will face Piedmont in Demorest on April 11.
