The men's tennis team lost to Birmingham-Southern on Downing Howell Courts on Friday evening, 6-3. Down 3-0 after doubles play, the Petrels stormed back to make the score 4-3 before a lost tiebreak at No. 5 singles derailed the spirited comeback.
The Panthers put the Petrels squarely behind the 8-ball by sweeping through the doubles competition before Oglethorpe began to mount their rally in singles play.
The singles got off to an inauspicious start, however, as Ethan Motz fell at No. 1 in a tiebreak. The Petrels battled back though with three straight points from No.'s 2, 3 and 4 as Benjamin Hirsch, Kirk Zhao and Rajiv Dinakaran scored successive victories.
After fighting back from a 6-0 first set loss, Craig Borne took his opponent to a second set tiebreak before scuccombing 7-6 (5) at No. 5 to seal the match for the Panthers. Complete results included below.
