Box Score The Oglethorpe men's soccer team pushed its unbeaten streak to eight games Sunday after their 0-2 start, dominating Hendrix, 3-0, in Conway, Ark. The Petrels improved to 3-0 in SAA play with the victory.
The Stormy Petrels took a 3-0 lead in the first half-hour on Sunday, effectively putting Hendrix out of the game early. Senior forward Nick Williamson tallied the first goal off an assist from senior defender Justin Graves in the 25th minute to give the Petrels the 1-0 lead. It went for Williamson's seventh goal of the season.
The Petrels doubled their advantage just five minutes later when senior defender Nikos Papanikolopoulos scored in the 29th minute off an assist from senior midfielder Sean King, and expanded it to a three-goal lead when Papnikolopoulos and King hooked up again in the 31st minute. The goals were Papanikolopoulos' fourth and fifth goals of the season.
From there, the Petrels pretty much cruised home for the victory. They outshot the home-standing Warriors 21-2 over the course of the game. The Warriors did not put a single shot on goal, while Oglethorpe put 10 on frame. The Petrels also earned nine corner kicks to the Hendrix's none.
Papanikolopoulos continued his 1.000 shot-on-goal percentage, as he took three more shots on Sunday and put every single one on frame. He's now taken nine shots on the season and put all of them on goal.
The Petrels, who sit in first place by themselves currently, return home for the remainder of the season starting next weekend. They'll take on SAA rival Centre Saturday at 3 p.m. on Salamone Field.
