Box Score The Oglethorpe men's soccer team and Centre played 110 minutes without scoring a goal Saturday afternoon on Salamone Field. The game ended in a 0-0 tie.
The two teams produced several scoring chances, but never could find the back of the net. Centre outshot Oglethorpe 18-8, with the shots on goal tally standing at 8-5. The teams started throwing numbers forward late in the game, especially in the golden goal overtime periods, trying to find the game-winning mark. However, neither team could find it.
Freshman goalkeeper Vaughn Moore had an impressive day for the Petrels in net, and he saved the day a couple times. He wound up with eight saves in all on the day and earned his first career clean sheet.
The tie moves the Petrels to 7-2-2 on the season, 3-0-1 in SAA play. They now sit tied atop the SAA standings with Berry, who holds an identical 3-0-1 conference record. The two teams will play two weeks from now on Salamone Field, but first, the Petrels will host both Birmingham-Southern and Millsaps next weekend. They take on Birmingham-Southern at 4 p.m. Friday, then battle Millsaps at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
