The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team fell in their second SAA contest Sunday afternoon, losing at Sewanee, 20-5.

The Lady Petrels took an early 1-0 lead in this one, as freshman Xenia Perry converted on a free-position shot with 26:37 remaining in the first half to give Oglethorpe the one-goal lead. However, Sewanee proceeded to go on an eight-goal run, taking an 8-1 lead with 17:21 remaining in the first half. 

The Lady Petrels answered with a goal from senior Katie Weeks, but the Lady Tigers scored three more times before Weeks tallied again with 9:11 remaining in the half. That made the score 11-3 in favor of Sewanee.

Sewanee went on to score five more times in the half and led 16-3 at halftime. Oglethorpe scored twice more in the second half, but it wasn't enough to prevent defeat. Junior Carissa Thomas scored within the first minute of the second half on a free-position shot to cut the Sewanee lead to 16-4, then later in the half, Weeks scored her third goal of the game, leading to an 18-5 deficit at that point.

The Lady Petrels did play much-improved defense in the second half, as they allowed only four goals, compared with 16 in the first half.

Weeks finished the game with a hat trick on eight shots, six of them on goal. Perry and Thomas tallied a goal each. Goalie Hayley Flanagan stopped seven shots for the Lady Petrels. 

Sewanee outshot Oglethorpe 30-10 in the game, and picked up 25 ground balls to Oglethorpe's 18. Oglethorpe successfully cleared the ball just 9-of-20 times, while Sewanee did so 12-of-14 times.

The Lady Petrels drop to 1-7 on the season with the loss, 0-2 in SAA play. They welcome in cross-state rival Berry Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. for another SAA contest.
