Men's Tennis Takes Down Centre, Gets Back On Track

The Oglethorpe men's tennis team defeated Centre 5-2 Saturday afternoon to get back on track after Friday's tough loss at Sewanee. The win improves to the team to 12-4, 2-1 in SAA competition.

The Petrels suffered a bit of a letdown at the start after the loss on Friday, as they fell behind the Colonels 2-1 after the doubles competition. The lone doubles win came when Bryan Bailey and C.J. Antonio won their No. 2 match 8-4.

However, the Petrels came back to sweep the singles portion of the competition. Nick Roby won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 to start the run. Then, Ben Hirsch blanked his opponent 6-0, 6-0 to give Oglethorpe the lead in the dual match.

Bailey similarly blew his opponent away 6-0, 6-1 to bring Oglethorpe to within a match of clinching the day, and Antonio accomplished it in short order, winning his match 6-3, 6-3 to give the Petrels the 5-2 victory.

The remainder of the day was canceled due to impending weather, but the Petrels were up a set in the No. 1 slot and up 5-2 in the first-set tiebreak of the No. 4 when the dual match ended.

The Petrels next take the court on Saturday, when they take on Millsaps at 9 a.m. on the Downing Howell Courts.
