Women's Tennis Falls to Huntingdon, 8-1

The Oglethorpe women's tennis team suffered a rough afternoon Friday, losing 8-1 to Huntingdon on the Downing Howell Courts.

The visiting Hawks swept the doubles portion of the cometition, but not without a fight from the Lady Petrels in the No. 1 match, with the team of Katherine Walker and Marcail McGranahan holding their own before eventually losing 8-6.

Down 3-0 in the competition, Huntingdon put the dual match away fairly quickly, winning the Nos. 2 and 3 singles matches to wrap up the afternoon, 5-0.

The lone win on the afternoon from the Lady Petrels came from Kate Siess in the No. 5 singles match. Siess lost the first set, 2-6, but bounced back to take the second, 6-2. With the dual match already decided, the two competitors decided the match with a tiebreak, and Siess prevailed 10-7.

Walker again fought valiantly in the No. 1 singles match, falling to her regionally-ranked opponent 6-4, 6-4.

The 1-2 Lady Petrels again take the courts early tomorrow morning, when they take on Mississippi College at 9 a.m.
