The Oglethorpe women's tennis team got its first win of the season in an SAA dual match Saturday in Conway, Ark., and did so in a rout, defeating home-standing Hendrix, 8-1.
The Lady Petrels got off to an excellent start, sweeping the Lady Warriors in doubles. Katherine Walker and Mary Ann Hafen took the No. 1 match 8-2, Clara Reinheimer and Hailey Bowers won 8-5 at No. 2, and Kate Siess and Tricia Groover routed their opponents 8-1 at No. 3.
In singles, the Lady Petrels quickly put away the dual match, winning their first three matches to remove all doubt. Siess swept her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, Marcail McGranahan won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3, and Hafen won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2. In addition, Groover won relatively easily at No. 4, 6-3, 6-1, while Walker needed three sets to take the No. 1 match, but did so 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 (in a third-set super-tiebreak).
The win improves the Lady Petrels to 3-14 on the season. With their first SAA win of the campaign, they improve to 1-5 on that front. They will take on Rhodes Sunday before getting prepared for the SAA Championship in Murfreesboro, Tenn., in two weeks.
