Women's Tennis Fights Valiantly, Falls 5-4 to Millsaps

The Oglethorpe women's tennis team put up a good fight against Millsaps, ranked No. 17 in the Atlantic South region, but fell in the end, losing 5-4.

Millsaps took two of the three doubles matches to start the morning off, the lone exception coming when Kate Siess and Tricia Groover took down their No. 3 match 8-1.

However, to start the singles matches, Millsaps took the Nos. 1 and 2 slots right away, leading to a 4-1 Lady Majors lead. The Lady Petrels rallied with a 6-2, 6-1 victory from Groover to pull to within 4-2, but Marcail McGranahan couldn't complete a second-set rally to keep the dual match alive, falling 6-0, 7-5 to clinch the day for Millsaps from the No. 3 slot.

After Millsaps clinched, the Lady Petrels won a couple more matches, as Siess pulled out the No. 5 singles match in straight sets: 7-5, 6-1. Meanwhile, Charlsie Johnson won a three-set match that turned out to be the final match of the day, triumphing in her No. 6 match 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

With the loss, the Lady Petrels drop to 2-12 on the season, 0-4 in SAA play. They will take the court again at the same time tomorrow, taking on Birmingham-Southern at 9 a.m. on the Downing Howell Courts. The Lady Panthers are ranked 15th in the Atlantic South region.
