Women's Tennis Falls to Regionally-Ranked Birmingham-Southern in Southern Shootout

The Oglethorpe women's tennis team fell to regionally-ranked Birmingham-Southern Saturday afternoon in the Southern Shootout, losing 7-2 in the match which officially counts as a non-conference tilt.

The Stormy Petrels were very close in doubles, but lost all three matches by a narrow margin (9-8, 8-5 and 8-4). The Petrels picked up two wins in singles competition, but it wasn't enough to stave off the Panthers' victory. Katherine Walker picked up a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles, while Tricia Groover took down her No. 5 singles match 6-3, 6-1. Ingrid Wilcox lost her first set 7-5 before going down 6-1 in the second, while JaHaun Freeman-Clark and Caffrey Francis both suffered 6-4 defeats in the second sets of their respective matches.

The women's team's Southern Shootout is now done. They'll travel to Montgomery, Ala., on Thursday to take on Huntingdon at 4:30 p.m. Eastern time before a big match against nationally-ranked Kenyon next weekend.
