Box Score The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team played a solid second half Thursday afternoon at Ford Field in Mount Berry, Ga., but couldn't overcome a tough first half in a 16-3 defeat at Berry.
The Stormy Petrels held the home-standing Vikings to just four goals in the second half and scored twice themselves. Freshman Kellen Flatt and senior Carissa Thomas both tallied goals in the second period for the Petrels, Thomas continuing her torrid stretch as of late. In addition, the Petrels allowed only nine shots and committed just eight turnovers in the second half.
However, that came after a first half in which the Petrels were outscored 12-1, outshot 32-4, and committed 14 turnovers. Sophomore Michelle Vasques tallied Oglethorpe's lone first-half goal.
Sophomore goalie Paige Falkowski did all she could for the Petrels, stopping 20 shots on the afternoon, but the first half onslaught proved too much.
For the game, the Petrels were outshot 41-7 and turned the ball over 22 times to the Vikings' eight. The Petrels did successfully clear the ball on nine out of 16 attempts and secure eight draw controls over the course of the game.
The loss drops the Petrels to 0-9 on the season, 0-4 in SAA play. They'll take a week off from game action before returning home to take on Emmanuel (Ga.) at 7 p.m. next Thursday on the Oglethorpe Track and Field.
