The Oglethorpe women's tennis team suffered a tough defeat against Covenant Thursday afternoon in Chattanooga, Tenn., losing to the Scots 5-4.
Without the services of normal No. 2 singles player Caffrey Francis, the Stormy Petrels won in straight sets at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, with JaHaun Freeman-Clark and Katherine Walker taking down their matches. However, the Petrels lost all four of the remaining singles matches in straight sets.
In the doubles competition, Freeman-Clark and Walker won 8-1 at No. 1 and Tricia Groover and Ingrid Wilcox won 8-5 at No. 2, but the Petrels couldn't hold on to take the No. 3 doubles match, losing 8-6. This proved costly during the singles portion of the competition.
The Petrels fall to 1-5 and will now travel to Orlando, Fla., for their spring break competition. They'll get started against former SCAC opponent Colorado College on Monday morning.
