The Oglethorpe men's tennis team completed a clean sweep of SAA opponent Berry Monday afternoon at the Howell Tennis Courts, defeating them 9-0.
The comprehensive victory started off a 3-0 sweep at doubles. The No. 1 doubles team of C.J. Antonio and Nick Roby defeated their opponent 8-2, the No. 2 pair of Ben Hirsch and Cedric Andre won 8-3, and the No. 3 tandem of Kirk Zhao and Craig Borne won 8-2.
In the singles competition, No. 1 singles player Antonio cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win. Hirsch and Roby had a little more work to do at Nos. 2 and 3, needing three sets to pick up their victories. Hirsch won 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, while Roby took down his match 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. Zhao won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4, while Matt Jones picked up his first victory of the season with a 6-2, 6-0 decision at No. 5. Matt Roberson rounded out the Petrels' six singles matches with 6-1, 6-2 victory.
The win improves the Petrels to 8-8 on the season, 2-1 in SAA play. They'll next travel west for their only SAA road trip of the season. They'll take on Birmingham-Southern in Birmingham, Ala., on Saturday before traveling to Jackson, Miss., to take on Millsaps on Sunday.
