Women's Tennis Notches First SAA Win with 6-3 Victory Over Hendrix

The Oglethorpe women's tennis team recorded their first conference win of the season Sunday with a 6-3 victory over Hendrix at the Howell Tennis Courts.

The Stormy Petrels swept the doubles portion of the morning, putting the visiting Warriors in a very difficult position for the singles portion. Caffrey Francis and Marcail McGranahan pulled out a barn-burner at No. 2, winning 9-8 (7-4). The other two doubles matches were considerably easier, with JaHaun Freeman-Clark and Katherine Walker taking the No. 1 match 8-3 and Ingrid Wilcox and Tricia Groover dominating at No. 3, 8-0.

In the singles portion, the Warriors did pick up a quick win to draw to within two, 3-1. However, the Petrels quickly shut the match down after that, as Walker won in straight sets at No. 3, 6-3, 6-2, while Freeman-Clark closed the match down with a 6-1, 7-5 victory at No. 1. After the clinch, Francis came in with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2 and Groover was up a set and ahead 2-1 in the second, but had to retire.

With the win, the Petrels improve to 6-13 on the season, 1-5 in SAA play. Before they get set for the SAA Championships in two-weeks' time, they'll take on Agnes Scott on Tuesday in the final match of their regular season. The match is scheduled to get started at 4:30 p.m. on the Howell Courts.
