Box Score

The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team fell 22-3 Tuesday in an intrastate battle against undefeated Piedmont in Demorest, Ga. With the loss, the Stormy Petrels fall to 1-6 on the season.

The Petrels fell behind early on in this one and never were able to recover, finding themselves down 6-0 to the undefeated Lions squad with 12 minutes gone. The visitors were able to score twice in the first half, but were down 12-2 at halftime. The second half saw more of the same, as the Petrels were outscored 10-1 over the course of that period.

The Petrels were outshot 38-6, including 34-4 on goal. They committed 23 turnovers to Piedmont's 12, secured five draw controls to the Lions' 22, and went 8-for-22 on clear attempts. Oglethorpe did scoop 17 ground balls on the afternoon and recorded 12 saves.

Junior Kelly Dutton tallied all 12 of the saves, doing all she could in the loss. In addition, junior midfielder Michelle Vasques had two goals on three total shots, putting all of them on target. She scooped four ground balls, as well. Junior defender Tate Davis tallied the other goal and freshman midfielder Madison Coffey passed out an assist on the afternoon.

The Lions jumped out to a 6-0 lead over the game's first 12 minutes Tuesday afternoon. Vasques scored an unassisted goal to make the score 6-1 at the 17:33 mark. Piedmont proceeded to score six more goals consecutively before the Petrels scored again just before the half with Vasques tallying once more. In the second half, Davis scored off an assist from Coffey with 10:33 left for the other Petrel marker.

The Petrels will now get set to re-enter SAA play this weekend. They'll travel to Sewanee, Tenn., to take on Sewanee Friday evening at 7 p.m. Eastern. They'll then stick around Sewanee for a neutral-site game against Greensboro at 4 p.m. Eastern on Saturday before returning home for their final five games.
