Men's Soccer Blows Out Anderson 4-0

Box Score

The Oglethorpe men's soccer team finished off its stay at the BSC Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama, in fine style Saturday evening, as they scored two goals in each half and ran away from the Anderson (Indiana) Ravens for a 4-0 victory. With the win, the team improves to 5-2-1 on the young season heading into SAA play.

The Stormy Petrels jumped on Anderson in the first half, outshooting the Ravens 11-2 over the course of the period. Seven of those shots were placed on target, as well. The Petrels were unable to break through for awhile, but freshman defender Jordan Locke finally struck for his second goal of the weekend, burying his shot into the back of the net off assists from freshman midfielder Topher Marshall and senior midfielder Martijn Edelman in the 40th minute. The Petrels quickly doubled their advantage in the 41st minute, when freshman midfielder Arturo Hernandez took a feed from sophomore midfielder Bailey Pinto and slotted it home, giving his team a 2-0 advantage.

In the second half, Oglethorpe picked up right where they left off, as senior midfielder Nick Muntean scored his sixth goal of the season in the 64th minute off an assist from sophomore defender Stefan Williams. Minutes later, Muntean buried his second goal of the game and his SAA-leading seventh of the season when he took a feed from Hernandez in the 67th minute and put it into the back of the net for a 4-0 Oglethorpe lead. From there, the Petrels continued to push, as they outshot the Ravens 16-1 over the course of the period. Oglethorpe cruised home for the victory from there.

Oglethorpe dominated the game in terms of scoring chances, outshooting Anderson 27-3 over the course of the proceedings with a 14-0 tally in shots on goal. The Petrels took 10 corner kicks to Anderson's one, as well. Muntean and Hernandez both fired six shots over the course of the game with Hernandez putting three on frame and Muntean placing two on target.

The 5-2-1 Petrels will now enter SAA play on a high note. The team's conference opener will take place Saturday afternoon at Oglethorpe's Salamone Field. The home team will take on Berry at 3:30 p.m.
