Box Score The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team picked up their first victory of the season Saturday in Cleveland, Georgia, blowing out the homestanding Truett-McConnell Bears 14-3 in chilly conditions. The win improves the Stormy Petrels to 1-1 on the season.
The Petrels got an outstanding performance from junior midfielder Juliana Altman, who tallied six goals on the afternoon. Senior midfielder Sydney Sparks added three goals, as well, with senior midfielder Tate Davis and freshman midfielder Cassie Andrews adding a pair of goals each.
"The team really capitalized on forced turnovers in between the lines," said Oglethorpe head coach Marissa Giannerini. "We also executed our fastbreak game very well. I'm proud that five different players put points on the board, as well. That shows the depth that we have been working to create on offense."
The win serves as the program's first victory away from home since 2013. The Petrels defeated Dallas in Jackson, Mississippi, on April 13, 2013, for their last victory of any type away from the Oglethorpe Track and Field and defeated Agnes Scott on April 3 of that year in Decatur, Georgia, for their last true road victory.
