Box Score The Oglethorpe volleyball team faced off against the visiting Hendrix Warriors Sunday afternoon at Dorough Field House. This was Oglethorpe's second conference matchup of the weekend. The Stormy Petrels fought hard, especially in a third set where they came back from a 15-6 deficit to stay alive, but the Hendrix Warriors won the match 3-1, resulting in Oglethorpe falling to 2-7 on the season overall and 0-5 in SAA play.
The Petrels jumped out with a 2-0 lead in the first set, but the Warriors quickly rallied with a 7-2 run giving Hendrix the lead. The Warriors held the lead until the Petrels went on a 7-3 run giving the Petrels a one-point advantage. The Warriors immediately erased their deficit by scoring five points in a row, and would go on to win the set, 25-21.
The second set started with another quick two points by the Petrels, followed by an 8-2 run by the Warriors. The Petrels were able to bring the score within two points, but then the Warriors went on to score six consecutive. This Warriors' run would prove to be the lead they needed to gain a victory in the second set. They went on to win it, 25-17.
The Warriors began the third set scoring 10 points compared to Oglethorpe's three. Hendrix continued to push their lead out, advancing it to 15-6. From there, Oglethorpe rallied with a 17-4 run, though, storming back into the set. They had separate runs of 5-0 and 6-2 during that stretch, and stunned Hendrix by forcing a fourth stanza with a 25-21 third-set victory.
The fourth set started out rough for the Petrels, though, when the Warriors quickly recovered and built a 12-1 lead. The visitors continued to push the lead out and eventually won 25-11.
Apart from the loss, Oglethorpe still had some amazing performance by their players. Junior outside hitter
Santreece Stephens lead the Petrels with 10 kills on the match, and finished with a hitting percentage of .381. Sophomore libero
Taryn North did a fantastic job in her defensive role, leading both teams with 26 digs. Another player of mention is the senior setter
Jordan Jones, because she was able to fill the the box score in multiple different ways; 6-Kills, 20-Assist, and 7-Digs. Senior setter

"We're proud of our effort today," said Oglethorpe head coach Joseph Goodson. "Give credit to Hendrix. They're a good team with a legacy of winning, and they played well today, but I'm proud of how our team responded in the third set. Being down 2-0, we could've given up, but instead, we got back to our game plan and got back in the match. I think we're going in the right direction now, so I'm looking forward to getting back out on the floor this week."
On Wednesday night at 6 p.m., Oglethorpe will take on conference rival Berry at Dorough Field House. Oglethorpe looks to gain a win at home before having to travel to conference rivals Centre and Sewanee on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, respectively.
