The Oglethorpe women's tennis team swept the homestanding Agnes Scott Scotties Friday afternoon in Decatur, defeating them 9-0 to improve to 4-4 on the season overall.

The Stormy Petrels got off to an outstanding start in the doubles portion of the competition. Senior Caroline Johnson and sophomore Hannah Dattilo picked up an 8-2 win at No. 1, while sophomore Taylor Cranford and junior Charlotte Disley followed with an 8-2 win of their own at No. 3. Junior Shannon Cruz and senior Halley Sickling completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles, sending the Petrels to singles up 3-0.

Oglethorpe made quick work of the singles competition, too, not letting an Agnes Scott competitor win more than three games in any of the 12 sets played over the six straight-set wins. Freshman Elizabeth Bielicki gave Oglethorpe a 4-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6, while Dattilo clinched the dual match for the Petrels with a 6-1, 6-0 victory from the No. 1 slot.

Cruz continued the sweep with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 2, while Cranford won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3. Junior Delaney Abood took her No. 4 match 6-0, 6-2, while freshman Lisette Phillips finished off the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles.

"Our team took care of business today," said Oglethorpe head coach Peter Howell. "We stayed focused and played with controlled aggression. It was nice to see all nine players in the lineup get a win!"

The Petrels will now head to northeast Georgia to take on Piedmont in Demorest Monday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. After that, they'll begin SAA play, starting with a home match against Berry on March 24.
