Women's lacrosse falls at Division II Palm Beach Atlantic

The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team fell to NCAA Division II side Palm Beach Atlantic 18-1 Monday night in West Palm Beach, Florida. The loss dropped the Stormy Petrels to 3-4 on the season.

The homestanding Sailfish enjoyed an efficient offensive game. They scored 12 goals on 17 total shots in the first half and held Oglethorpe scoreless. The Petrels held Palm Beach Atlantic to just six goals in the second half but still couldn't get anything going offensively. Their lone goal came up a player with 7:47 remaining in the game when senior attacker Clarissa Hopkins found the net off an assist from senior midfielder Caroline Chamberlain

Freshman Zoe Geiger and junior Jordan Chandler split time in goal for the game, combining for nine saves. Chandler collected five of them in the second half.

The Sailfish outshot the Petrels 27-6 on goal and outdrew them 13-8. They also went 4-for-5 on free position shots to Oglethorpe's 0-for-5. The Petrels committed 22 turnovers and picked up 15 ground balls. They were 10-for-17 on clear attempts.

Oglethorpe will be back in action on Wednesday, March 20, when they return to the Oglethorpe Track and Field and host Brenau at 5 p.m. After that, they'll return to SAA play with a road game against Centre March 23 in Danville, Kentucky.
