The Oglethorpe women's tennis team fell to the No. 26 Sewanee Tigers 9-0 Sunday in Tennessee. The Stormy Petrels fought hard, but the home side was just too strong across the board. The result dropped the Petrels to 7-5 overall and 0-4 in SAA play.

Junior Hannah Dattilo and senior Shannon Cruz fell 8-4 to the Tiger's top-line doubles team, while senior Delaney Abood and sophomore Lisette Phillips fell 8-3 at the No. 3 line. Senior Charlotte Disley and junior Elizabeth Bielicki lost 8-1 on the No. 2 line.

In singles play, Phillips played a tight first set, obtaining set point a couple of times while up 5-4 before falling 7-5. She lost the second set 6-2. Bielicki staved off six match points at No. 5 but eventually fell 6-0, 6-3. Cruz competed well at No. 2, but she also fell in straight sets 6-4, 7-5.

The match was delayed several hours due to intermittent morning rain at Sewanee's campus.

"This was a tough match for us against a really strong team," said Oglethorpe head coach Peter Howell. "The rain delays also made it a difficult day. Lisette played well and had some chances at No. 6 singles, but that was as close as we got. Hopefully, we will be ready to go against Hendrix on Saturday."

The Petrels will travel to Conway, Arkansas, to take on the Warriors Saturday at 2 p.m. EDT. After that, they'll continue to Memphis, Tennessee, to take on Rhodes next Sunday.
