Box Score ATLANTA—Felipe Araújo scored a go-ahead goal in the 52nd minute and Hayden Binfield headed in the game winner in the final 15 as the Oglethorpe men's soccer team wrapped up the regular season with a 2-1 win over Berry Saturday night.
The win completed an undefeated season within Southern Athletic Association play for the Stormy Petrels, who will go to next week's postseason tournament as the top seed.
Binfield's eventual game-winning goal was made possible by Abraham Lopez and Fernando Guevara. Lopez missed a close chance that ended up saved for a corner kick, and Guevara provided a great crossing pass on that corner kick a few seconds later. It was Binfield's third goal of the season.
Araújo scored Oglethorpe's other goal on a close-range attempt early in the second half after an assist from Josh Labus. Araújo's goal made it 1-0, but Berry answered back quickly with an equalizer just 15 minutes later. Binfield provided his answer just 10 minutes after that.
Oglethorpe dominated the possession and had nearly all the scoring chances. The Petrels earned a 15-5 (7-1 on goal) margin in the shot-taking column, and they took nine corner kicks to the Vikings' three.
Oglethorpe next heads to the Southern Athletic Association tournament as the No. 1 seed. The Petrels will host a quarterfinal game against Millsaps Saturday, Oct. 30, at a time to be announced. If victorious, they would host the last two rounds on Friday, Nov. 5, and Sunday, Nov. 7.
