Box Score ATLANTA—Ian Farquhar scored on a couple of direct free kicks early in the first half on the way to the Oglethorpe men's soccer team winning 7-0 over Millsaps Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Southern Athletic Association tournament. It marked the 400th men's soccer win in Oglethorpe history, including 270 that have come in the NCAA era.
Oglethorpe repeated what it did earlier this season in keeping the Majors scoreless while running away with a handful of goals. Farquhar's pair was his first two of the season, and he scored them both in similar fashion. The first, which proved to be the eventual game winner, came following a foul roughly 20 yards out that he buried into the back of the net less than five minutes into the game.
Farquhar doubled the lead 22 minutes later when James Williams drew a foul on the 18 in a breakaway goal-scoring opportunity of his own. Farquhar stepped up and rattled this one off the inside of the post and again into the back of the net.
Goals Nos. 3 and 4 for the Stormy Petrels looked much alike as well, with Sebastian Molina and Stephen Bole scoring off missed close-range shots from Fernando Guevara and Christian Quintana, respectively. Moline scored just before the break to make it 3-0, and Bole put the icing on the 7-0 victory with the game's last goal in the 86th minute.
In the in between, Logan Llano scored one early in the second half to make it 4-0 with an assist to Alexis Puga, Abraham Lopez scored in the 66th minute off a great pass from JT Jones, and Ethan Nunes scored an unassisted goal in the 84th minute.
Oglethorpe outshot Millsaps 30-4 in the victory.
Up next, Oglethorpe will host the semifinals and finals of the SAA tournament, set for next weekend. Games are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 5, at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m. Oglethorpe will play the 7 p.m. game Friday against either Birmingham Southern or Berry with a spot in the conference championship game on the line.
