The Oglethorpe men's tennis team notched their first SAA win of the season Saturday with a 6-3 triumph over the Rhodes Lynx on the Howell Courts. The victory improved the team to 1-1 in conference play and 3-1 overall.
The Stormy Petrels got their day started by winning two of the first three doubles matches. All three matches finished 8-6 and could've gone either way, but freshmen Ameya Dani and Daniel Cohen won on the No. 1 line and freshman Vince Claussen joined senior Calvin Schneider in victory at No. 2.
Senior Zoe Raymond picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory over his opponent at No. 6 singles, giving Oglethorpe a 3-1 lead. After Rhodes pulled back a point with a win on the top line, the Petrels won a couple of three-set matches to secure victory in the contest. Cohen came back to win 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 while Schneider held off his opponent 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 at No. 4. With both those wins, the Petrels got to five for the day and claimed the dual match. Claussen added a 6-3, 7-5 victory of his own out of the No. 2 slot.
The Petrels will go back up against the Lynx in a non-conference contest on Sunday at the Howell Courts. They'll get started at 10 a.m.
