Box Score The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team fell behind early to the homestanding Centre Colonels Saturday morning in Danville, Kentucky, and never could work their way back into the game in a 21-5 loss. The defeat dropped the Stormy Petrels to 3-2 on the season and moved them to 1-1 in SAA play.
Centre ran off the game's first 5 goals over the opening eight minutes of play before the Petrels answered with a tally from sophomore attacker Mikaela Carlson at the 18:37 mark. The home side then proceeded to embark on another run, this one of 6 straight goals, before the Petrels again answered with a Kaitlynn Alford goal at the 3:59 mark. Centre entered the halftime break with a 12-2 lead.
In the second half, the Colonels outscored Oglethorpe 9-3, with Alford joining freshman attacker Ally Moir on the scoreboard in the second 30 minutes.
Despite giving up 18 goals, Oglethorpe senior goalie Jordan Chandler did a lot to make it as close as it was. She recorded 20 saves on the afternoon on 38 shots on goal faced, while also scooping six ground balls.
The Petrels will be back in action Saturday when they host Birmingham-Southern at 1 p.m. from the Oglethorpe Track and Field.
