The Oglethorpe men's tennis team continued their outstanding run of play of late, winning their sixth match in a row with an 8-1 triumph over Berry at the Howell Courts on Saturday. The victory improved the Stormy Petrels to 7-1 on the season overall and 3-1 in SAA play.
The Petrels won two of the three doubles matches in the early-going Saturday, putting themselves in excellent position. Freshmen Ameya Dani and Daniel Cohen took down the top-line match 8-6 while seniors Walker Benson and Zoe Raymond won 8-4 at No. 3.
Oglethorpe went on to sweep all six matches in singles competition. Dani won the most competitive of them at No. 1, winning a three-set thriller 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. Freshman Vince Claussen swept his opponent 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 while Benson won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3. Cohen took down his No. 5 match 6-2, 6-1 while Raymond did the same 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6. Senior Calvin Schneider was leading the first set of his match 4-0 when his opponent withdrew, giving him the Petrels' eighth point of the day.
The Petrels will be back in action with a pair of matches from Alabama next weekend, when they take on Birmingham-Southern in matches on Friday and Saturday.
