Women's tennis swept by Centre in SAA opener

The Oglethorpe women's tennis team fell to the visiting Centre Colonels 9-0 in the SAA opener for both teams at the Howell Courts. The loss dropped the Stormy Petrels to 1-1 on the season.

The Colonels swept the doubles matches with relative ease, taking a 3-0 lead into singles competiton. They quickly pushed their lead up to 6-0, clinching the dual match. The Petrels engaged in some tight matches down the stretch, though. Sophomore Sydney Dattilo fell 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 and senior Lisette Phillips lost 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1. Sophomore Kendall Kramer went to a third-set super-tiebreaker before falling in her No. 2 match. Kramer went up a set, blasting her way to a 6-2 win in the opening stanza. Her opponent followed up with a 6-3 win in the second, though, and Kramer fell 10-5 in the tiebreaker. 

The Petrels will be back in action against Centre Sunday at 1 p.m. in what will be a non-conference contest.
