Women's tennis falls to Centre for second straight day

Box Score

The Oglethorpe women's tennis team competed again against a tough Centre Colonels side Sunday afternoon at the Howell Courts, but Centre ultimately prevailed 8-1. The result dropped the Stormy Petrels to 1-2 on the young season.

The Colonels again swept to a 3-0 lead after doubles, just as they had on Saturday. The Petrels were highly competitive in a few singles matches, though, led by sophomore Sydney Dattilo who took down her No. 5 match. Dattilo lost the first set 6-4, but came back and took the second 6-2 to force a decisive 10-point tiebreaker with the dual match already decided. In a tight affair, Dattilo won the tiebreak 10-8 to earn the Petrels a point. Senior Lisette Phillips was competitive in a 6-3, 6-4 loss at No. 1, while sophomore Kendall Kramer fought hard in a 6-3, 6-2 defeat at No. 2. Freshman Muskaan Bhukhanwala fell 7-5 in the first set at No. 6 before dropping the second set 6-1.

This match does not count as an SAA contest for the Petrels. Though conference teams will be playing twice per weekend, only the Saturday match will count toward the conference standings.

The Petrels will take on Rhodes in a conference matchup Saturday at 3 p.m. from the Howell Courts.
