The Oglethorpe women's tennis team saw their season come to a close Sunday morning, as they fell 9-0 to the Millsaps Majors on the Howell Courts. The defeat dropped the Stormy Petrels to 3-9 to close the campaign.
The Petrels were in tough against the first-place Majors, and fell 3-0 in doubles competition, getting stuck behind the eight-ball early. Senior Lisette Phillips and sophomore Alyssa Merletti were competitive in the top-line doubles match, but they eventually fell 8-5.
In singles competition, Merletti sent her opponent to three sets in the No. 4 match. She eventually fell 7-6, 5-7, 1-0, though, losing in a first-to-10 tiebreak in lieu of a third set. Sophomore Sydney Dattilo found herself in a tight first set, falling 7-4 in a tiebreak. She was blanked 6-0 in the second set, though. Sophomore Kendall Kramer hung tough but lost 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2, while sophomore Alexis Salgueiro and senior Brooke Dotson lost 8-6 in matches decided by eight-point pro sets.
Sunday also served as Senior Day for the women's tennis team. The program honored Dotson and Phillips for their careers prior to the match.
