The Oglethorpe men's tennis team extended their winning streak to seven matches Friday with a 7-2 win over the Birmingham-Southern Panthers in Alabama. The victory improved the Stormy Petrels to 8-1 on the season overall and 4-1 in SAA play,
The Petrels won two of the three doubles matches, getting an 8-5 victory from freshmen Ameya Dani and Daniel Cohen in the top-line match and then getting a win from seniors Walker Benson and Zoe Raymond 8-2 at No. 3.
In singles play, Cohen and Raymond each earned lopsided victories, with Cohen taking down his match 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 and Raymond doing the same 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6. Senior Calvin Schneider clinched the victory for the Stormy Petrels, winning 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4, while Benson took down the No. 3 match 7-5, 6-3. Freshman Vince Claussen won the match of the day at No. 2, prevailing 15-13 in a third-set super-tiebreak after coming back from losing the first set 6-0 to win the second 6-2.
The same two teams will go at it again Saturday from Birmingham. They'll compete in a non-conference contest.
