ATLANTA – George Inzunza saved a penalty kick and Logan Llano scored an equalizer to give the Stormy Petrels some momentum in the second half, but in the end, the Oglethorpe men's soccer team came up short to Emory, 2-1, Sunday night at home.

The record set the Petrels back to 0-2 this season after they lost another one-goal decision Saturday night against No. 11 Washington and Lee.

Emory struck first despite Oglethorpe dominating the first several minutes of play, even putting the ball into the back of the net twice in the early going but having them both called back due to offsides. Emory's goal came in the 31st minute on one of only a few scoring chances. Cole Hendricks scored it off an assist from Will Tichy.

Second half swings

Emory looked to go ahead 2-0 early in the second half, but a huge save from Inzunza on a penalty kick kept the game a one-goal difference. Llano eliminated that difference 14 minutes later on a header in the penalty area following a corner kick from Fernando Guevara.

The spark was short lived, however, as Emory tallied its second goal less than one minute later on a long-range shot from Luke Price.

Oglethorpe dominated much of the possession and the scoring chances, resulting in a 15-10 advantage on shots and a 7-6 advantage on shots on goal. The Petrels also had 10 corner kicks compared to Emory's two.

Inzunza made four saves.

Oglethorpe heads west for two games next week in California. The Petrels will face No. 14 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Friday night and Redlands Sunday evening. The next home match for Oglethorpe is set for Friday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m.
