Women’s tennis postseason preview

ATLANTA – The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels faced a challenging season, and are preparing to enter the Southern Athletic Association championship tournament as the No. 6 seed.

Tournament Information

  • The championship matches will be held at a neutral site, Champions Club, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
  • Oglethorpe will face No. 3 Centre on Friday, April 28, at 10:15 a.m.
  • If the Petrels advance, they will face the winner of Rhodes and Birmingham Southern on Saturday, April 29, at 9 a.m.
  • The championship match will be played on Sunday, April 30, at 9 a.m.
  • Oglethorpe fell 8-1 to Centre on April 15, with Izzy Forster recording a win at No. 1 singles.

Season Review

  • Oglethorpe posted a 5-11 overall, 1-6 SAA record.
  • The Petrels defeated SAA rival Birmingham Southern 5-4 in early April, which was their conference opener.
  • The team recorded a three-game streak of 9-0 victories early in the season, defeating LaGrange, Agnes Scott and Huntingdon.
  • Oglethorpe also recorded an 8-1 victory against Belhaven.

Individual Highlights

  • Izzy Forster finished the regular season with a 9-6 overall singles record, and went 4-3 in conference. She holds a 12-4 doubles record.
  • Sydney Dattilo has a 7-9 singles record, and a 10-6 doubles record.
  • Forster and Dattilo were named the SAA doubles players of the week in mid-March. The duo recorded a 10-4 overall record, 3-4 in conference.
  • Brianna Ali has a 5-6 singles record, and 7-7 for doubles overall.
